Confederation of ASEAN Senior Golfers' Association

The Morning Session.

The day began early with another excellent breakfast served at 6:00 AM, setting a warm and energizing tone for what was to come. At the crack of dawn, the CASGA Tournament was officially opened by YB Datuk P. Shanmugam A/L Pitchay, the esteemed Minister of the State of Malacca. The opening ceremony was a sight to behold—almost a grand procession—with approximately 100 golfers proudly marching, each nation represented by its flag waving high in front. The spirit of unity and camaraderie was unmistakable. At precisely 8:15 AM, the tournament teed off with a dazzling display of fireworks lighting the morning sky, signaling the start of a day full of passion and precision.

As players took to the course, focus and determination were written on every face. No one wanted a dreaded triple bogey to spoil their round. The System 36 scoring format kept the competition thrilling and wide open—rewarding consistency while still encouraging those brave enough to chase birdies. With each swing, the energy remained high. Some played safe, others took daring shots—but all shared the same goal: to give their best in the spirit of sportsmanship and represent their countries with pride.

By midday, the sun was beating down strongly—temperatures climbed to around 31 degrees Celsius. It was a hot day, and you could see the toll it took: players came in tired, hungry, but still full of spirit. Lunch was a welcome reward. A delicious spread of fish, chicken curry, and vegetables awaited the golfers, offering both comfort and refreshment after a challenging morning. Laughter and conversation filled the dining area, proving once again that while golf is a competition, it is also a celebration of friendship and fellowship.

Secretary General

Confederation of ASEAN Senior Golfers' Association  (CASGA)

Resignation Letter
To All Respected Presidents of CASGA (Confederation of ASEAN Senior Golfers Association),

At the outset, I want to express that I was truly passionate about building CASGA into a respected and recognized organization within ASEAN. I understood from the beginning that it is not appropriate for us to use the ASEAN name without proper acknowledgment or consent from the ASEAN leadership and its governing bodies. That is precisely why I had been working hard behind the scenes—to lay the groundwork for formal recognition, structure, and credibility.
It is with deep disappointment that I have observed CASGA being reduced to merely discussing when the next golf event is scheduled, rather than serving as the strategic, forward-looking organization it was meant to be. I had envisioned CASGA developing into a respected regional institution—one characterized by a clear structure, long-term planning, and meaningful collaboration among its members. Instead, our gatherings have largely been confined to scheduling matters, a narrow focus that, in my view, diminishes the organization's broader mission and potential. This deviation from CASGA’s intended role has been deeply disheartening to me.
However, during our recent gathering, I was placed in an unfortunate and deeply disheartening position. A proposal was introduced by the President of SGSM without any prior consultation with me, despite my presence and my position as Secretary General. I was blindsided—made to appear irrelevant in front of you, my respected peers. Such disregard is not only discourteous, but it undermines the very spirit of cooperation and mutual respect that this Confederation is supposed to represent.
From the very beginning, I sensed that there were political undercurrents at play—something I have no desire to engage in within this community. CASGA should remain free of such maneuvering. It should be about friendship, sportsmanship, and building a legacy—not personal or political agendas.
To all of you, I offer my sincere apologies if my response appeared ungracious or emotional. It was not my intention to cause any discomfort. My reaction stemmed from conviction and disappointment—not pride.
And so, after careful consideration, I hereby resign from my position as Secretary General of CASGA. I do so with a heavy heart but with clarity of mind. I can no longer serve in a system where trust, transparency, and respect are not upheld.
I thank you all for the opportunity to serve, and I continue to wish you well in your individual journeys and national associations.
With deepest respect,
Peter Frans Gontha
Former Secretary General
Confederation of ASEAN Senior Golfers Association (CASGA)
